Celery is believed to have originated in the Mediterranean region, but it has been cultivated in India for centuries, especially for seed production. In India, celery is mainly grown in Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh. It thrives in cool climates and is typically sown in the rabi season (October–November), with harvesting done around February–March.
India is a leading producer and exporter of celery seeds, particularly to countries in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Europe, and North America. Indian celery seeds are valued for their strong aroma and high oil content. While much of the production is consumed domestically, exports are steadily increasing due to rising global demand.
